NEW COMMIT: Denver, Colorado’s Ryan Peterson has recently announced his verbal commitment to the University of Southern California and will join the Trojans next fall.

Peterson does his club swimming with University of Denver Hilltoppers and is a six-time Junior National qualifier. He achieved a pair of lifetime bests at Juniors this summer after winning two events at Colorado Seniors in July. He placed 21st in the 200 free at Juniors West last winter and was the runner-up in the event at Colorado Seniors in March.

Also swimming for Wheat Ridge High School, Peterson is a six-time Colorado 4A State Championship finalist. The NISCA All-American won the 200 free and placed third in the 100 free as a junior after winning the 200 IM during his sophomore season.

He told Swimming World:

“I am absolutely thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to swim at the University of Southern California next Fall. I have been a Trojan fan for life and am honored to have the opportunity to be a student-athlete at USC. I want to acknowledge and thank my family, teammates, friends and coaches for their support over the years. They have prepared me to compete in the pool and in the classroom at USC. Fight On!”

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 21.03
  • 100 free – 45.32
  • 200 free – 1:39.14
  • 200 IM – 1:50.02
  • 100 breast – 57.46
  • 200 breast – 2:05.82

When he arrives in Los Angeles as a member of the class of 2023, Peterson will add valuable depth in USC’s freestyle and IM group. Although he sits just outside of scoring range at the 2018 Pac-12 Championships, Peterson has improved each season with nearly a year of club swimming still to go. The Trojans finished third in the team standings at last season’s conference meet.
