Two Pitt Swimmers Named to Polish National Team

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania, January 8. UNIVERSITY of Pittsburgh head swimming and diving coach Chuck Knoles announced Thursday that junior Kathy Siuda and freshman Adam Plutecki were selected to the Polish Senior National Team for 2006.

“It is exciting to know that Kathy and Adam will have the opportunity to represent their native country Poland,” said Knoles. “This is a tribute to their efforts.”

This past November, Siuda shined at the Polish National Championships as she won gold medals in the 200 and 400 individual medley events in her age group, while claiming silver in both overall. Siuda (Waterloo, Ont./Bluvale Collegiate) also won silver medals among her age bracket in the 400 and 800 free races. At the 2005 Big East Championships, Siuda placed fourth in the 400 I.M. and seventh in the 1650 free.

Plutecki (Zielon Gora, Pol./High School #VII), who joins the team this semester, also competed at the Polish National Championships in November. A silver medalist in the 100 I.M., he finished in the top 10 in the 50 breast and 50 back. He is currently ranked second in Poland in the 100 I.M. and sixth in the 50 breast.
