Tulane Student-Athletes Find Support from Various Universities

DALLAS, Texas, September 7. DUE to their displacement by Hurricane Katrina, student-athletes from Tulane University will be spread across five campuses in Louisiana and Texas during the fall semester. The women’s swimming team will relocate to Texas A&M in College Station, Texas. The swimming program will be joined by men’s basketball, women’s volleyball and women’s soccer at Texas A&M.

Tulane coaches and support staff, including trainers, academic counselors and administrators, will work with the various helping universities in determining practice and competition schedules, along with meeting times. Students will be admitted to the host schools under tuition and enrollment agreements worked out by Dr. Scott Cowen, Tulane’s President. Students will be afforded housing and meal services in addition to their enrollment.

“I can’t say enough about the tremendous outpouring of support we have received from every single person we have spoken to over the last several days, not only from these five schools, but from other schools we contacted and our conference office,” said Tulane Athletic Director Rick Dickson. “Our priority was to continue to provide a high quality academic and athletic experience for our athletes. This plan could not have come together without their help.”

The Tulane football team will relocate to Louisiana Tech University and the baseball and women’s basketball squads will move to Texas Tech University. Women’s tennis will be based at Rice University and men’s and women’s golf will be situated at Southern Methodist University.
