NEW COMMIT: Tulane University has earned a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from breaststroker Christiana Williams of Tucson, Az.

Williams, who owns the Summer Juniors standard in the 200m breast, does her club swimming with Tucson Ford Dealers Aquatics. She most recently competed in both breaststroke events at Junior Nationals this past summer after earning bronze in the 200m breast at Arizona LCM Senior Opens. Last winter, she was the 200 breast runner-up at Arizona Seniors before going on to earn a trio of best times at NCSAs.

Also competing for Catalina Foothills High School, Williams is a four-time Arizona State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American placed fifth in the 200 IM and seventh in the 100 breast as a junior after finishing seventh in both events during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

“I am so excited to study and swim at Tulane University next year! I chose Tulane because I know that Tulane can challenge me in both the classroom and the pool. Thank you to my parents and my coach Paul Stafford for helping through the recruiting process. The Tulane swimmers, Coach Stancil, and Coach Kojima were all very welcoming and made me feel like a part of the Tulane family. Roll Wave!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 breast – 29.81
  • 100 breast – 1:04.55
  • 200 breast – 2:17.34
  • 200 IM – 2:11.46

Even with a year of club swimming still to go, Williams’ best times already rank at the top of Tulane’s lineup. She would’ve scored in the B-final of both breaststroke events at the 2019 American Athletic Conference Championships where the Green Wave finished fourth overall in the team standings.
