NEW COMMIT: Miami University (Ohio) has recently received a verbal commitment from breaststroker Trystan Lundgren. The Hinsdale, Ill. native will join the Redhawks as a member of the class of 2023.

Lundgren does his club swimming with WEST Swim Club where he is a Junior National qualifier in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke. The NISCA All-American competed at the Speedo Champion Series in Iowa City this past summer, notching personal bests in three different events.

Also representing Hinsdale Central High School, Lundgren finished fifth in the 100 breast (56.32) at the 2018 IHSA Boys State Championships as a junior after placing seventh (57.52) during his sophomore campaign. He shares the school record in the 100 breast and owns the 200 medley relay record along with Redhawk rising freshman Cole Grosshans. His high school coach, Bob Barber, graduated from Miami Ohio in 1996.

He told Swimming World:

“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at Miami University.  Miami felt like the perfect fit the minute I stepped on Oxford’s campus. Miami’s team culture, great academic focus and coaching philosophy made me feel like I was home. Huge thanks to Coach Hollie Bonewit-Cron and Coach Ryan Rich for this amazing opportunity and to my family, friends, coaches and teachers for helping to make my dream come true. GO REDHAWKS! Trust the Journey! Love and Honor.”

His best times include:

  • 50 breast – 26.46
  • 100 breast – 56.32
  • 200 breast – 2:05.33
  • 200 IM – 1:58.32

Lundgren will add more depth to the Redhawks’ breaststroke group when he arrives on campus for the 2019-20 season. He will have two seasons to train with Noah Barr and Blake Brockman, Miami’s two top returning breaststrokers. The Redhawks finished third at last season’s MAC Championships.
