Freestyle sprint specialist and Olympic Trials Qualifier Sam Disette of Blue Valley North High School and Kansas Swim Academy has announced his commitment to swim for the University of Alabama. The defending Kansas 6A State Champ in the 50 and the 100 Free, Disette is still a relative novice to the pool, with less than three years of experience as a competitive swimmer after years spent honing his basketball skills.

Although his current best times are slightly outside scoring range at the SEC Championships, the Tide can anticipate continued improvement as Disette will join a freestyle sprint training group led by Laurent Bams, Robert Howard and Luke Kalisak as he makes the transition to college swimming in Tuscaloosa.

His best times are (SCY/LCM):

50 Free 20.67/23.21
100 Free 46.02/53.06
100 Fly 51.88/58.50

Disette is excited about his future with the Tide:

“I decided to commit to the University of Alabama, because the team gave me the strong feel of family. While watching one of their practices, the swimmers were pushing each other on as they finished their set. Not to mention, their unbelievable coaching staff. They not only coach to be the best in the pool, but to be the best in the classroom as well. The University of Alabama has so much to offer, and I’m so happy I will be a part of the Tide!”
