NEW COMMIT: Newport News, Va. native Katie Nunez has given her verbal commitment to Towson University and will suit up for the Tigers as a member of the class of 2023.

Nunez does her club swimming with South Eastern Virginia Aquatics and swam a pair of best times this summer at NCSAs after qualifying for finals in four different events at VA LCM Seniors. She finished 18th in the 50 free at VA Seniors in March before racing six events at NCSAs. Also competing for Menchville High School, Nunez finished fourth in the 200 free and eighth in the 100 free as a junior at the Virginia 5A State Championships. She placed tenth and fourth, respectively, in those events at State during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

“Couldn’t be more excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim at Towson University! Thank you so much to everyone who’s helped me get to this point. I can’t wait to be a tiger!!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 24.11
  • 100 free – 52.02
  • 200 free – 1:52.85
  • 100 breast – 1:07.01
  • 200 breast – 2:24.95

When she arrives on campus in the fall of 2019, Nunez will add valuable depth to a sprint group that includes Annemarie Schnoor and Sarah-Margaret Locke. Although she currently sits just outside of scoring range at the CAA Championships, Nunez has continuously made improvements each season.
