NEW COMMIT: Northwestern University has added a new verbal commitment for the 2022-23 season and beyond from U.S. Open qualifier Audrey Yu of Las Vegas, Nevada.

She will join Lindsay Ervin, Hana Shimizu-BowersMackenzie Lanning and Riley Huddleston as a member of the Wildcats’ Class of 2026.

She told Swimming World:

“B1G things are happening!! I’m ecstatic to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic career at Northwestern University 🙂 Thank you so so much to everyone who has guided me through this long process. An even bigger thank you to my coaches, teammates, friends, and family for pushing me to be my best. I can’t wait to join the Wildcat family and be apart of such an amazing team ?”

Yu, who does her club swimming with Sandpipers of Nevada, owns three National Age Group relay records: the 4×50 free relay, 4×100 free relay, and 4×200 free relay.

Yu most recently won the 50m/100m free at the MAC 10th Annual Speedo Invite last month after achieving a trio of best times at December’s Las Vegas Super Invite. She also won the 100 free at the Nevada Championships before going on to earn a best time at the Toyota U.S. Open in 2019.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 22.64
  • 100 free – 49.96
  • 200 free – 1:53.02
  • 100 back – 56.06
  • 100 breast – 1:05.79

A rising senior at Bishop Gorman High School, Yu swept the 50 and 100 free at the Nevada 3A/4A State Championships as a freshman. She is also a two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American.

Yu will add valuable sprint depth both individually and on relays when she arrives on campus in the fall of 2022. She would’ve scored in the B-final of the 50 free at the 2021 Big Ten Championships where the Wildcats finished fourth overall in the team standings.

Katie Robinson just finished her first season as Northwestern’s head coach.
