Three New York Age Groupers Die in Auto Accident

BUFFALO, New York, March 21. THE tragic death of three young swimmers from the Flushing YMCA cast a pall over the New York State YMCA Swimming Championships, held March 17-19, at the Bert Flickinger Center in Buffalo, New York. 1300 YMCA swimmers from the state of New York participated in this season-ending event.

Sadly, the event suffered a great tragedy before it began Friday afternoon. Three swimmers and their adult driver from the Flushing YMCA swim team were killed in a traffic accident on the New York State Thruway Friday morning on their way to the meet.

The three young swimmers are Kevin Kwan, 16, Douglas Jaing, 10, and April Lao, 14. A moment of silence was observed before the finals session Saturday night.
