NEW COMMIT: Old Dominion University has picked up a new addition to their Class of 2025 from freestyler Thomas Ray of Columbus, Ohio, beginning in the fall of 2021.

He told Swimming World:

“I am excited to announce my commitment to Old Dominion University! Thank you to all my coaches, friends and family for all your support. Can’t wait to be a Monarch!”

Ray, who does his club swimming with Upper Arlington Swim Club, earned five best times at the MAKO Senior Circuit back in February where his highest finish was a fourth-place showing in the 1500m free. He also placed sixth in the 200 free and seventh in the 500 free at the Ned Reeb Invite last December.

In Summer 2019, he had a strong showing at Ohio LCM Seniors en route to taking 15th in the mile.

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 22.69
  • 100 free – 48.94
  • 200 free – 1:45.89
  • 500 free – 4:40.47
  • 1650 free – 16:27.32

Also competing for Upper Arlington High School, Ray is a five-time OHSAA District Championships finalist. He placed seventh in the 500 free and 11th in the 200 free as a junior while taking 15th and 19th, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season. In 2020, he grabbed gold in the 500 free and silver in the 200 free at Central District Sectionals.

Ray will add valuable distane freestyle depth to Old Dominion’s lineup when he suits up for the Monarchs at the start of the 2021-22 season. He would’ve scored in the B-final of the 500 free as well as placed in the top-10 of the mile at the 2020 Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Championships.
