Thomas Heilman Adds Another NAG with 1:43.97 in 200 Butterfly

Thomas Heilman continued a stellar week at the 2021 Speedo Winter Junior Championships East meet in Greensboro, N.C., setting another national age-group record.

Heilman was first in prelims in a time of 1:43.97. That’s a drop of more than two seconds off his seed time of 1:46.13. It trounces the 13-14 NAG set in 2014 by Olympian Michael Andrew, who went 1:45.39.

Heilman’s splits:

1 Thomas Heilman 14 Cavalier Aquatic 1:46.13 1:43.97
                 23.38 50.17 (26.79)
        1:17.24 (27.07) 1:43.97 (26.73)

The Cavalier Aquatic Club/Piedmont Family YMCA swimmer has nabbed four age-group records, setting the mark in the 100 free, 200 free and 100 fly. He also swam a leg on the record-setting 400 free relay.

Heilman declared a false start in the 100 free on Saturday. He’ll likely get a chance at a flat-start time in that on the 400 free relay Saturday night on the final day of finals. That swim will come after his 200 fly final.
