Carmel Women, SwimMAC Men Win Relays on Night One at Greensboro Juniors

The eastern site for USA Swimming’s Winter Junior Nationals began Wednesday evening with action in the 200 medley and 800 freestyle relays, with the Carmel Swim Club women and SwimMAC Carolina men taking first in two relays each. Carmel was led by some of the stars of last year’s high school national-title winning team, including future Texas Longhorn Berit Berglund and freshman Alex Shackell, the breakout star of the Summer Championships in the same Greensboro pool.

Carmel’s women first won the 200 medley relay in 1:37.60 with Berglund, Devon Kitchel, Shackell and Meghan Christman. That clipped five hundredths off the Juniors meet record of 1:37.65 set by Fort Collins in 2017. The TAC Titans finished 3.5 seconds behind in second place in 1:41.26, and third went to Club Wolverine in 1:41.59.
