BOULDER, Colorado, October 30. HALLOWEEN weekend featured a plethora of exciting college dual meets. Several teams from Texas had busy weekends, and two SEC powerhouses also faced-off against each other. Here's a look at the weekend highlights.
Texas, Texas A&M, Missouri and Southern Methodist competed in the two-day Southwest Collegiate Plunge, with the Longhorns earning a narrow 46-point victory over rival Texas A&M by a score of 796 to 750 points.
Neil Caskey earned two wins for the Longhorn men, finishing first in the 200 IM (1:49.71) and 200 fly (1:48.49). Teammate Patrick Murphy claimed two victories of his own in the 200 back (1:47.94) and 100 back (49.30).
While their Aggie teammates were busy battling the Texas men, the Texas A&M women were racing to a win against Missouri. Breeja Larson rocketed to two wins in the breaststrokes, posting outstanding times of 1:00.89 in the 100 breast and 2:10.37 in the 200 breast.
Cammille Adams was on fire for the Aggie women as well, racing to victories in the 200 fly (1:58.52) and 500 free (4:49.99). Jaele Patrick was the top diver at the meet, earning wins in the one-meter (324.08 points) and three-meter (370.95 points) competitions.
On Friday night, Florida took on SEC rival Georgia in Gainesville, with the men's competition ending in a tie at 150 points apiece. The Georgia women pulled out a slim victory over the Florida women by a score of 158.5 to 141.5 points. The meet was held in long course meters to give swimmers a chance to earn Olympic Trial cuts.
Gator Teresa Crippen was three-for-three in wins and Olympic Trial cuts, touching first in the 200 fly (2:14.79), 200 back (2:16.85) and 400 IM (4:50.28).
Teammate Elizabeth Beisel posted two first place finishes in the 100 back (1:03.96) and 400 free (4:14.47), both Olympic Trial cuts.
Matt Elliott of Florida swam his way to two Trials cuts and first place finishes in the 100 and 200 breast, posting times of 1:04.59 and 2:18.01, respectively.
Sarah Batemen continued her fantastic year for the Florida women with victories in the 50 free (25.93) and 100 fly (1:01.06).
Jameson Hill (200 free, 1:54.00; 100 free, 53.20), Jared Markham (100 back, 59.58; 200 back, 2:06.64) and Martin Grodzki (800 free, 8:19.11; 400 free, 4:02.28) were triumphant in two events apiece for the Georgia men.
