NEW COMMIT: Junior National qualifier Darin Johnson of Atascocita, Texas has announced his commitment to Howard University and will arrive in Washington, D.C. at the start of the 2021-22 season.

He told Swimming World:

“After months of thinking, I have made my decision to swim at Howard University all four years of my college career. I want to thank my coaches and my teammates for pushing me to get to where I am now. I also want to give a big thanks to Head Coach Askew for giving me this opportunity to swim at the one and only D1 HBCU. I’m hoping to make some real noise in the water and make my name known! Go Bisons!!!!”

Johnson does his club swimming with Blue Tide Aquatics and earned three best times at the 18&U Winter Championships in December. In July 2019, he placed fifth in the 100m breast at the Gulf Summer Senior Championships.

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 56.81
  • 50 free – 21.34
  • 100 free – 47.96

Also competing for Atascocita High School, Johnson raced to 10th in the 100 breast at the Texas 6A State Championship finalist in 2021 after collecting silver in that event at the Region 06 meet two weeks prior.

Johnson will add valuable depth both individually and on relays when he arrives on campus as a member of the Class of 2026. He would’ve scored in the B-final of the 100 breast at the 2020 Coastal Collegiate Sports Association Championships where the Bison finished sixth overall in the team standings.
