NEW COMMIT: Columbia has earned a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2019 from College Station, Texas’ Jessica Peng.

Peng swims year-round with Aggie Swim Club and owns the Winter Juniors standard in the 100 fly. She was a five-time finalist at Southern Zone Seniors this summer where her highest finish was a seventh-place showing in the 100m free. She competed in three events at Juniors West last winter and recorded a lifetime best at College Station Sectionals in March.

Also representing Aggieland High School, Peng is a six-time UIL Texas 5A State Championship finalist. She finished second in the 100 fly and fourth in the 200 free as a junior after winning the former at the Region 3 meet two weeks prior. She placed fourth in both of those events at State during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m super excited to announce my verbal commitment to Columbia University! I can’t thank my family, coaches, and friends enough for helping me get this far! Go Lions!”

Her best times include:

  • 100 fly – 55.70
  • 200 fly – 2:05.31
  • 200 IM – 2:05.47
  • 100 free – 51.52
  • 200 free – 1:50.12

Peng’s versatility will be extremely valuable for Columbia, who finished fifth at last season’s conference meet, when she suits up for the Lions as a member of the class of 2023. She would’ve scored in the B-final of the 200 free as well as the C-final of the 100 fly, 200 fly and 100 free at the 2018 Ivy League Championships.
