Tes Schouten Returns to Familiar Territory Atop the Podium at Flanders Cup
Tes Schouten found herself on top of the podium at the Flanders Cup in Antwerp as she continues her progress since returning to competitive waters.
The Netherlands swimmer has been developing step by step following a lengthy absence after she was hospitalised in November 2024 with nerve pain, loss of power and function on the entire left side of her body.
She withdrew from the 2025 worlds in Singapore as she was still experiencing extreme fatigue and pain on a daily basis.
Schouten – who won 200m breaststroke bronze at the Paris Olympics – moved to Antwerp where she reunited with coach Mark Faber, training alongside the likes of Roos Vanotterdijk, Caspar Corbeau and Florine Gaspard.
She returned to competition earlier this year and on Saturday she won the 100m breaststroke in 1:08.18 ahead of Henrietta Fangli (1:08.61) and Konstantina Andriann Gkovari (1:08.85).
Training partner Corbeau won the men’s 50 breast in 27.54 ahead of Valentin Bayer (27.72) to clinch the 50/100 double.
Gaspard returned to the pool a day after setting a Belgian 50 breast record of 30.44, posting 53.91 to win the 100 free.
