NEW COMMIT: The University of Tennessee has picked up a verbal commitment from Elle Caldow of Virginia Beach, Va. who will join the Lady Vols for the 2020-21 season.

Primarily a backstroker and freestyler, Caldow swims year-round with Tide Swimming and is a three-time U.S Open qualifier. She most recently competed in her future home pool at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Knoxville where she finaled in five different events. She placed 18th in the 100 back at Juniors East last month and achieved 100% lifetime bests at Junior Nationals this past summer after winning the 400m free at Virginia LCM Seniors.

Also competing for First Colonial High School, the current junior is a four-time Virginia 6A State Championship finalist. Caldow won the 100 back and took fifth in the 200 free as a sophomore after finishing 12th in the former and fourth in the 100 free during her freshman season. She has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors.

She told Swimming World:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and further my academic career at the University of Tennessee! I could not have gotten to this point without the support of my teammates, friends, family, and especially my parents and coaches. Thank you all so much! Cannot wait to be a part of such an amazing team!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 back – 25.39
  • 100 back – 53.75
  • 200 back – 1:57.28
  • 100 free – 51.16
  • 200 free – 1:47.24
  • 500 free – 4:51.42

When she arrives in Knoxville as a member of the class of 2024, Caldow will add valuable backstroke and mid-distance freestyle depth to Tennessee’s lineup. Even with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go, she would’ve scored in the C-final of the 100 back and 200 free at the 2018 SEC Championships where the Lady Vols took third overall in the team standings.
