Tennessee Men Snare Victory over Georgia Tech to Open Season

ATLANTA, Georgia, October 14. TENNESSEE opened its men’s campaign on Thursday with a 136-97 victory over Georgia Tech. The Volunteers received a boost from their freshmen, as Stan Czarnecki, Barry Murphy and Burkley Showe all produced first-place swims. The meet was held in an odd-distance format at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.

"I saw some good things today," Tennessee head coach John Trembley said. "We spread the success across all classes and had some very nice swims.

Czarnecki won the 150-yard backstroke in 1:24.30 while Murphy, a native of Ireland, topped the competition in the 50 free with a mark of 20.82. Showe, meanwhile, claimed his victory on the one-meter springboard with a score of 305.18. Tyler Gustafson, a senior, was the winner of the 150 free (1:11.82) and Adam Farnham prevailed in the 150 butterfly in a time of 1:21.45.
