Tar Heels Snag 2023 Verbal From Junior National Qualifier Michaela Chokureva

NEW COMMIT: The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill has received its third verbal commitment for the fall of 2023 from Junior National qualifier Michaela Chokureva of Andover, Mass.

She will join Maren Conze and Ava Muzzy as a member of the Tar Heels’ Class of 2027.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am so beyond blessed to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill!! I would like to thank my family, friends, coaches and teammates for their endless support!! GO TAR HEELS!!”

Chokureva trains year-round with Phoenix Swim Club and most recently placed 21st in the 50 free and 22nd in the 100 free at the Speedo Winter East Championships last month. This past summer, she sprinted to 11th in the 50m free at West Fargo Futures before going on to compete at the Speedo Summer East meet.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 22.93
  • 100 free – 50.09
  • 200 free – 1:50.82
  • 100 back – 57.97
  • 200 back – 2:05.24
  • 100 fly – 55.52

Currently a junior at Andover High School, Chokureva won the 50 and 100 free at the Massachusetts DI State Championships as a freshman. She has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors.

Chokureva also participated in the 2021 USA Swimming Diversity Select Camp.
