Tanner Jones De-Commits from UNC, Will Attend Alabama in 2022

NEW COMMIT: After originally choosing UNC, U.S. Open qualifier Tanner Jones of Swedesboro, New Jersey, has announced his new college destination: The University of Alabama as a member of the Crimson Tide’s Class of 2026.

He will join Drayden Bell, Connor Little and John Hayes in Tuscaloosa at the start of the 2022-23 season.

He told Swimming World:

“I am very proud to announce that I will be continuing my academic and swimming career at the University of Alabama! I want to thank my family, my coaches, and all my friends for helping me get to this point and for believing in me. Also, I want to thank the coaches at Alabama for giving me this opportunity. Roll tide!”

Jones, who trains with South Jersey Aquatic Club, placed 20th in the 1500m free at Richmond Futures in July. He also finished fifth in the 500 free, mile, and 400 IM at the Middle Atlantic Senior Championships after earning bronze in the 500 free at the ISCA International Senior Cup.

His best times include:

  • 200 free – 1:43.76
  • 500 free – 4:33.10
  • 1000 free – 9:26.40
  • 1650 free – 15:34.40
  • 200 IM – 1:56.92
  • 400 IM – 4:02.55

Currently a senior at Gloucester Catholic High School, Jones placed fifth in the 500 free and 13th in the 200 free as a sophomore at the New Jersey Meet of Champions.
