TAMU Freshman Wilkinson Named Big 12 Swimmer of the Month

COLLEGE STATION, Texas. Febraury, 7. TEXAS A&M freshman Julia Wilkinson (Stratford, Ontario) was named the Big 12 female swimmer of the month for January by the conference office over the weekend.

Wilkinson, one of A&M's most versatile swimmers, won individual events in
all five of the Aggies' dual meets during the month, two of which came
against top 10 teams, and also swam on a pair of winning relays.

She was the Aggies' top swimmer in the State Farm Lone Star Showdown in
Austin, blasting the field in the 100-yard freestyle in an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 50.71 while helping lead the A&M 400-yard freestyle relay to victory by more than three seconds over the Longhorns. Wilkinson also earned a win in the 100 back over No. 8 SMU in an NCAA provisional time of 56.07 on Jan. 14.

The freshman already ranks among the top 10 in A&M history in three
different individual events heading into the conference meet, a meet in
which practically all of A&M's swimmers torpedo season and lifetime-best
swims.

The Aggie women have won two of the three Big 12 Swimmer of the Month awards given out this season on the women's side and both were by freshmen. Triin Aljand (Tallinn, Estonia) won the award in October after an impressive first month in the A&M uniform. Freshman Ashley Ledigh of Kansas won the award in November.
