Tait Named Scottish Sportsperson of the Year
LONDON, England, November 1. BRITISH swimmer Gregor Tait has been named Scottish Sportsperson of the Year at a prestigious ceremony this weekend.
Tait, who was part of Scotland's most successful swimming squad at the Commonwealth Games earlier this year, was awarded the Emirates Lonsdale trophy at the Commonwealth Games Council for Scotland's 75th anniversary dinner.
The Scot, who recently returned to Edinburgh after a period spent training in Wales, beat of competition from cyclist Craig Maclean and shooter Sheena Sharp to take his first ever sports personality award – voted for by his fellow athletes.
The award caps off a good year for Tait that saw him win gold in the 200 backstroke and 200 individual medley and bronze in the 100 backstroke and 400 medley relay.
