SwimmingWorldMagazine.com Weekly Channel Recap: January 20, 2007

PHOENIX, Arizona, January 20. OVER the past week of swimming news here on SwimmingWorldMagazine.com, we continued to cover various international and domestic events – primarily for junior swimmers. We kept a close eye on the Junior Pan Pacific Championships, Long Beach Grand Prix, Australian Youth Olympic Festival, Burgdorff ERA Invitational and the Scottish Short Course Championships.

On the college beat, John Lohn ripped into the James Madison University Board of Visitors for paying lip service to those fighting for the very existence of sports on the chopping block, including men's swimming. We also reported the sad news that Auburn assistant coach Ralph Crocker succumbed in his first against cancer.

In other collegiate news, we named Matt Grevers and Jessica Connors our National Collegiate Swimmers of the Week, and publisher Brent Rutemiller caught up with Grevers in a Swimming World Radio segment.

Shippensburg University senior Jill Snyder checked in with a strong run in the "A Day in the Life" series. So strong, that it drew international attention in the form of swimming blogs making it a point to link to her stories. Great job, Jill!
