Swimming World Five Star Jack Wagner Makes College Decision

PHOENIX, Arizona, October 4. ONE of the top recruits in the nation, Swimming World five star Jack Wagner, finished a tough decision making process this week.

Wagner, who swims for the Long Island Aquatic Club, had a tough time deciding between Florida and Southern California. In the end, Wagner decided to head to the Pacific 10 Conference, joining another Swimming World five star Vlad Morozov. Wagner owns long course senior national cuts in the 100-meter free (50.51), 200-meter free (1:50.33), 100-meter back (56.87), 200-meter back (2:02.18) and 200-meter IM (2:03.77).

"I have verbally committed to USC," Wagner told Swimming World. "I would also like to say that it was not an easy decision at all. I took my first official recruiting trip to the University of Florida, and had so much fun and absolutely loved the school when I left, but I was somewhat skeptical about the training work load and the lack of majors that I wanted to study in at Florida. My next official recruiting trip was to USC. Immediately, I fell in love with the school.

"I plan to major in business and the business school at USC had exactly what I was looking for," Wagner continued. "While I loved the school, getting warmed up to the team and understanding Dave Salo's coaching method was a different challenge but I eventually began to trust in Dave Salo's techniques and fit in with the team. After leaving USC, I realized my decision would be between USC and UF. I felt as though my heart wanted me to go to Florida, but my mind was telling me to go to USC. Finally, after much stress, thinking, and deliberation with my coach Dave Ferris and my parents, I decided that USC was the right choice for me. I was and still am truly sad that I had to turn down Florida because I loved the coaches and the team, but I am confident that I made the right choice in USC. Now, I am relived my college search is over and extremely excited, anxious and nervous to start out my career at USC."
