Swimming Gets Some Attention in Current Issue of Sports Illustrated

PHOENIX, Arizona, October 7. THE current issue of Sports Illustrated, now on newsstands, features a pair of swimming references within its pages. First, Gary Hall Jr. was one of the four athletes questioned in the weekly feature, “The Pop Culture Grid.” Each week, the magazine asks athletes questions concerning pop-culture topics.

In answering some of the magazine’s questions, the multiple Olympic gold medalist indicated a preference for Conan O’Brien over Jimmy Kimmel in terms of late-night personality. The sprint sensation also declared the worst movie her ever saw being “anything with Sly Stallone.” Hall also declared his liking for platinum over gold or silver when it comes to rings.

The second reference to swimming was found in the Life of Reilly column, the weekly contribution of Rick Reilly. In a column that focused on his preferences if he ruled the sporting world, Reilly declared, “Any college coach making more than $1 million a year shall fund the return of an extinct ‘minor’ sport – swimming, wrestling, etc.”
