NEW COMMIT: Breaststroker Markus Wennborg of Huntersville, North Carolina has given NC State an in-state verbal and will join the Wolfpack as a member of the class of 2023.

Wennborg does his club swimming with SwimMAC Carolina and owns the Junior National standard in both breaststroke events. He notched 100% lifetime bests at Juniors this summer and had a trio of second-swims at the Charlotte UltraSwim in June. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American raced four events at Juniors East last winter where he recorded a best time in every event he swam. Also swimming for Hopewell High School, Wennborg placed third in the 100 breast and eighth in the 200 IM at the North Carolina 4A State Championships as a junior after winning the former at the West Regional meet.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m stoked to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at NC State University! Thank you to everyone that helped me along my way. Go pack!”

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 55.56
  • 200 breast – 2:01.74
  • 200 IM – 1:51.61

When he suits up for the Wolfpack next fall, Wennborg will add valuable breaststroke depth to a training group that includes Giovanni Izzo. Last season, NC State finished fourth at NCAAs and won their fourth-straight ACC title.
