SwimMAC Backstroker Maddy Flickinger Makes In-State Verbal to NC State

NEW COMMIT: NC State has gained a new in-state verbal commitment for this upcoming fall from Matthews, North Carolina native Maddy Flickinger.

Flickinger does her club swimming with SwimMAC Carolina and owns a trio of U.S. Open cuts with four additional Winter Juniors standards. She finished seventh in the 200 back at Juniors East last month after competing in three events at Winter Nationals. She placed 11th in the 100m back at Junior Nationals this past summer after finaling in the 50m back at Phillips 66 Nationals.

Also competing for Weddington High School, Flickinger is a six-time North Carolina 3A State Championship finalist. She was the runner-up in both the 100 back and 200 IM as a junior after winning the 100 back and taking second in the 200 IM during her sophomore season. She has also earned NISCA All-American honors twice during her career.

She told Swimming World:

Huge thanks to all of my family, friends, coaches and teammates that have supported me along the way. I can’t wait to get to Raleigh. Go Pack!!!”

 

Her best times include:

  • 100 back – 54.27
  • 200 back – 1:56.98
  • 50 free – 23.06
  • 100 free – 49.81
  • 200 breast – 2:19.66
  • 200 IM – 2:01.65
  • 400 IM – 4:23.61

When she suits up for NC State as a member of the class of 2023, Flickinger will join training groups that include Kylee AlonsEmma MuzzyKy-lee Perry and Mackenzie Glover. She would’ve scored in the C-final of the 200 back at the 2018 ACC Championships where the Wolfpack finished third overall in the team standings.
