NEW COMMIT: Dacula, Ga. butterflyer Mia Walters has selected to continue her academic and swimming career at West Virginia University beginning in the fall of 2021.

She will join Emily Knorr and Miranda Kirtley as a member of the Mountaineers’ class of 2025.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at West Virginia University!!! A huge thanks to everyone who has shown me endless love and support throughout this process. I cannot wait to join such an amazing family in the fall of 2021! Go mountaineers!!”

Walters, who owns the Junior National standard in the 200 fly, does her club swimming with SwimAtlanta and most recently placed 14th in her signature event at the Southern Premier Invitational and competed in that event at Juniors East. Last summer, she recorded five best times at Georgia LCM Seniors where she was the runner-up in the 200m fly.

Her best times include:

  • 50 fly – 27.26
  • 100 fly – 56.93
  • 200 fly – 2:02.08
  • 100 free – 54.31
  • 200 free – 1:52.75

Also competing for Mill Creek High School, Walters is a six-time Georgia 7A State Championship finalist. She finished fourth in the 200 free and seventh in the 100 fly as a junior after racing to fourth place in both of those events during her sophomore season.

Walters will make an immediate impact in the butterfly events when she arrives in Morgantown as she would’ve scored in the A-final of the 200 fly at the 2020 Big 12 Championships.
