Three meet records fell on the first night of the 2016 Arena Pro Swim Series Santa Clara. Sun Yang set the most stunning of those records on his way to a world leading time in the 200 freestyle.

Women’s 200 Freestyle

In a new meet record time of 1:56.36, Emma McKeon out touched fellow Australian Bronte Barratt (1:56.65) for the win in the first event of the night. McKeon was two seconds off her world’s second best 1:54.83. Barratt has also been the world’s eighth best time of 1:55.95.
Maya DiRado took third in 1:57.70. Madison Wilson (1:58.45), Jessica Ashwood (1:58.65), and Chelsea Chenault (1:58.87) finished one after another.
Madeline Groves (1:59.52), Ella Eastin (1:59.85), and Camille Cheng (2:01.10) completed the A final.

Sun Yang vaulted to first in the world rankings, touching in 1:44.82 to win the event. James Guy now sits second in the world with his 1:45.19.
Conor Dwyer was second tonight in 1:45.41. That impressive swim moves him to third in the world this year.
Kyle Chalmers was back in 1:47.64 for third place. Zhi Yong Qian earned fourth in 1:48.08. Fifth went to Maxime Rooney (1:48.85).
Markus Thormeyer (1:50.29), Long Gutierrez (1:50.42), Liam Egan (1:50.86), and David McKeon (1:51.02) completed the A final.

Though not as fast as this morning, Sarah Haase still won the event in a 1:07.05, the 20th best time in the world this year. Jessica Hardy, the holder of the 20th best time, swam a 1:08.01 for second. Georgia Bohl was just behind with a 1:08.07 for third.
Fourth went to Martha McCabe in 1:10.89. Maija Roses swam a 1:11.17 for fifth. MC Schillinger (1:11.35), Danielle Hermann (1:11.55), Grace Zhao (1:11.88), and Heidi Poppe (1:13.08) completed the A final.

Noemie Thomas held on to her top prelims swim to win the event tonight. She touched in 57.72, not far from her 57.02 from Canadian Trials. That time is also a new meet record. Australian Emma McKeon was back for a second podium finish tonight with a 58.31 for second place. Farida Osman swam a 59.13 for third place honors. Maya DiRado was just on her tail, with a 59.16 in her second swim of the night.
Madeline Groves posted a 59.26 for fifth and Janet Hu stopped the clock in 59.72 for sixth.
Felicia Lee (1:00.23), Ally Howe (1:00.40), and Ella Eastin (1:00.85) completed the A final.

Keryn McMaster swam a 4:38.83 to win the 400 IM tonight ahead of Olympian Caitlin Leverenz in 4:41.70. Sarah Darcel grabbed bronze in 4:47.23.
Celina Li finished fourth in 4:49.70. Sarah-Lee Hevey placed fifth with a 4:53.19.

Jared Filliland finished fourth in 4:21.65. Christopher Jhong stopped the clock in 4:25.12 for fifth.
