Sun Devils Snag In-State Verbal from Sprint Freestyler Christian Osterndorf for 2021-22

NEW COMMIT: Sprint freestyler Christian Osterndorf of Gilbert, Az. has opted to stay in-state for his college career and has handed Arizona State University a verbal commitment for the fall of 2021.

He will join his current club teammate, Jeremy Graunke, as well as Ethan Hansen and Emilio “Lio” Perez in Tempe as a member of the Sun Devils’ class of 2025.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming career in Division One at Arizona State University! I truly believe that everything happens for a reason and I would like to thank everyone for helping me to get to where I am today. A special thanks to coach Bowman and coach Behm for this incredible opportunity. I will be taking advantage of ASU’s amazing education and athletic programs to further myself as a person. Forks Up!!!”

Osterndorf does his club swimming with Rio Salado Swim Club and most recently earned gold in the 50 free and bronze in the 100 free at the Arizona Senior Open. Last summer, he won the 50m free at the Arizona LCM Open before going on to earn a best time at Des Moines Futures.

His best times include:

50 free – 20.42
100 free – 45.71
200 free – 1:42.85

A current junior at Campo Verde High School, Osterndorf is a four-time Arizona DII State Championship finalist. He took bronze in the 100 free and placed fourth in the 50 free in 2019 while finishing sixth and second, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season. He is also a three-time Arizona Meet of Champions qualifier.
