In the men’s synchronized 10m diving China’s Chen Aisen and Lin Yue took home the second diving gold, coming in above David Boudia and Steele Johnson (USA), and Tom Daly and Daniel Goodfellow (GBR).
Going into the event as a strong favorite, China solidified their gold medal in the fifth round with a front four and a half that was almost impeccable. The low score on both execution and synchronization was a 9.5, and they pulled in a grand total of 106.56 points leaving them with a comfortable lead headed into the final round.
The American team dove with strong consistency, holding the silver medal position throughout the event. In the third round, they performed an inward three and a half for an outstanding 83.52 points. Looking ahead to the individual 10m events, both Johnson and Boudia are setting themselves up for another strong showing.
It was a battle for the bronze. The British team held the spot for the first four rounds of the event, but dropped down to fifth after their inward three and a half. The came back into the third place position in round five with a marginal advantage over the German team, who had come out just ahead of them at the European Championships earlier this year. In a suspenseful last round, the British pulled ahead, cementing the bronze by just six points.
The 13-member Chinese team has shown dominance in the first days of competition. With six events to come they will be on the hunt for the remaining gold medals.
