Staciana Winfield Honored with Team Kids Award

IRVINE, California, October 15. STACIANA (Stitts) Winfield, a 2000 Olympian and longtime member of Irvine Novaquatics, has been presented with a 2005 Team Kids Spirit Award. Winfield, now an assistant coach at the College of Charleston, received the honor based on her support and commitment to young people. Team Kids was established in 1999 to provide young people opportunities to learn about community leadership, teamwork, compassion and making healthy choices.

“We are proud of Staciana’s accomplishments in the pool and out of the pool,” said Dave Salo, Winfield’s former coach at Novaquatics. “This award epitomizes the character of Staciana. It could be named the Staciana Award.”

Competing in the 100 breaststroke and the preliminaries of the 400 medley relay at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, Winfield recently relocated to Charleston, South Carolina with her husband, Brett. The San Diego native earned medals at the 1999 and 2003 Pan-American Games and gold in the medley relay in Sydney. She was named to the U.S. National B Team for the 2005 season.
