NEW COMMIT: St. Augustine, Fla. native and sprinter Jason Weed has announced his commitment to the University of Lynchburg as a member of the class of 2023. The upcoming 2019-20 season will be Lynchburg’s inaugural season under head coach Brad Dunn.

Weed swims year-round with St. Augustine Swim Team and most recently recorded three best times at the Florida Spring Championships. He finished third in the 500 free at the Harry Meisel Championships in December and raced six events at the Florida LCM Championships this past summer. Also competing for St. Augustine High School, Weed finished 19th in the 100 fly at the Florida 3A State Championships during his senior season.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m very excited to announce my commitment to continue my swimming and education at the University of Lynchburg. Thanks Coach Dunn for recruiting me to be a part of such a great program. Thanks to my high school and club coaches and friends and family who have supported me over many years to get to this point. I’m looking forward to competing with my new teammates this fall. Go Hornets!”

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.52
  • 100 free – 49.62
  • 200 free – 1:54.81
  • 100 fly – 53.42

Lynchburg’s swimming and diving team has been on hiatus since the 1970-71 academic year and will begin competition in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference starting this fall. Weed’s versatility will be extremely beneficial for the Hornets, and he could find himself in a number of different events and relays during their first year back as a program.
