NEW COMMIT: Milwaukee, Wis. native and current high school junior Maya Novack has declared her verbal intention to continue her academic and swimming career at the U.S. Naval Academy beginning in the fall of 2020.

Primarily a sprint freestyler, Novack swims year-round with Ozaukee Aquatics and most recently competed at NCSAs where she recorded a trio of best times after placing eighth in the 100 free at the Wisconsin SCY Championships. This past summer, she finished 19th in the 50m free at Iowa City Speedo Sectionals before racing three events at Rochester Futures.

Also competing for Cedarburg High School, Novack is a six-time Wisconsin DI State Championship finalist. She earned the bronze medal in both the 50 free and 100 free as a junior after placing seventh and 14th, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m so honored and grateful to have this opportunity to verbally commit to the Naval Academy. I am so humbled to be able to further my academic and swimming career at such an amazing school and eventually serve this great nation in return! Thank you to my parents, grandparents, coaches, and friends for getting me to where I am today!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 23.64
  • 100 free – 51.66
  • 200 free – 1:53.45
  • 500 free – 5:07.88

Novack will be a valuable asset in both individual events and relays when she arrives on campus as a member of the class of 2024. She would’ve scored in the B-final of the 50 free and 100 free at the 2019 Patriot League Championships where Navy won their eighth-straight team title.
