NEW COMMIT: Florida State has picked up a new in-state commitment for the upcoming 2019-20 season from Jacksonville, Fla. sprinter Blake Moran.

Primarily a sprint freestyler, Moran does his club swimming with the Wahoos of Jax under head coach Carlos Mejia and owns the Winter Juniors standard in the 50 free. He raced the 50/100 free combo at Juniors East in December and concluded his summer long course season with a 13th-place showing in the 50m free at Cary Futures in August. Also competing for Providence School, Moran is a four-time Florida 1A State Championship finalist. He placed fifth in the 50 free and seventh in the 100 free as a senior after taking 11th and 12th, respectively, in those events during his junior season.

He told Swimming World:

“I am extremely excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at Florida State University! Thank you to my family, teammates, and coaches for helping me along the way. Go Noles!!”

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 20.73
  • 100 free – 45.46
  • 200 free – 1:43.95

When he arrives in Tallahassee as a member of the class of 2023, Moran will add his talents to a sprint squad that’ll include Jakub Ksiazek and Vladimir Stefanik. Although he’s not in scoring range just yet at the ACC Championships, he has made signifiant improvements over the past two seasons, taking off 2.5 seconds from his 50 free, six from his 100 free and 12 seconds off his 200 free.
