NEW COMMIT: Old Dominion University has recently been given a new in-state verbal commitment for the fall of 2019 from local sprinter Allen Zachary of Suffolk, Va.

Zachary swims year-round with East Coast Aquatic Team and owns a pair of Winter Junior cuts. He achieved three lifetime bests at Juniors East last winter and was a three-time finalist at Ohio Futures two summers ago. Also swimming for Nansemond River, Zachary has raced at the Virginia 5A State Championships each of his three high school seasons so far. He placed fifth in the 50 free and eighth in the 200 free during his junior season after winning both of those events at VHSL 5A Region D Championships a week prior.

He told Swimming World:

“I am grateful for all my coaches and family who have helped me achieve my goals. I look forward to my future swimming career as part of the monarch family.”

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 21.03
  • 100 free – 46.06
  • 200 free – 1:42.76
  • 100 fly – 50.75

When he suits up for the Monarchs as a member of the class of 2023, Zachary will join a sprint training group that includes Noah Wilkins and a fly squad led by Filip Svedberg. He would’ve scored in the B-final of the 50 free and 100 free at the 2018 CCSA Championships where Old Dominion took second in the overall team standings.
