NEW COMMIT: Tampa, Fla. native and sprint freestyler Izzy Haight will stay local for her college career after verbally committing to the University of Tampa as a member of the class of 2024.

Haight swims year-round with the Greater Tampa Swim Association and most recently competed at the TYR LCM Spring Classic where she finished fourth in both the 100m free and 400m free after earning four best times at the Florida Spring Championships.

This past summer, she raced six events at Florida LCM Seniors before going on to compete at Southern Zone Seniors. Also competing for H. B. Plant High School, Haight finished 16th in the 50 free at the Florida 4A State Championships during her junior season.

She told Swimming World:

“I am so blessed to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic pursuits at the University of Tampa!!! Being able to go to this amazing school has been a dream come true and an answer to prayer. I’m very grateful to my family, teachers, coaches, and teammates who helped me get to this point in my swim career!!! I would also like to thank Coach Kiner for allowing me to be part of the Spartan’s success!!!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 24.32
  • 100 free – 52.99
  • 200 free – 1:55.72

Haight will add valuable sprint depth both individually and for relays when she suits up for the Spartans at the start of the 2020-21 season. She’ll add her talents to a team that earned their fourth Sunshine State Conference title in program history and then went on to finish 15th overall at the 2019 NCAA DII Championships.
