Age Groupers Shine in Timed Finals at Speedo Winter Invitational

Age group action kicked off at the Speedo Winter Invitational Friday afternoon in Piscataway, N.J., with 20 events of timed finals contested. Swimming World and SwimCast were there to capture the action, and all race videos will be available shortly.

In the 13-14 girls age group, North Baltimore’s Grace Black was victorious in both the 100 back (1:07.90) and 200 IM (2:30.32), while teammate Logan Betkey took first in the 200 free (2:12.48). Berkeley’s Lily Barisonek won the 200 breast in 2:49.16.

Sam Kamdin from North Baltimore captured wins in the 13-14 boys’ 200 free (2:02.98) and 100 back (1:03.31). Long Island’s Allan Chu won the 200 breast in 2:40.90, and NBAC’s Ryan Merani won the 200 IM in 2:20.76.

The Long Island Aquatic Club dominated the 11-12 girls and boys’ events. For the girls, Jacqueline Constantine winning the 50 breast (32.96), Brooke Armstrong topping the field in the 400 free (4:42.61) and April Chun touching first in the 50 breast (39.05). For the boys, Matthew Peitler won the 50 back (33.08), Sean Green won the 400 free (4:41.72) and Sebastian Gomez claimed the 50 breast (35.91).

Kiera Harkins won the 10-and-under girls’ 50 free for Berkeley in 32.96, while North Baltimore’s Carley Bendis won the 100 back in 1:25.30 and NBAC’s Chrissy Furlow won the 100 breast in 1:33.21.

For the 10-and-under boys, NBAC’s Daniel Brannon won the 50 free (30.58), NBAC’s Charlie Lakatta won the 100 back (1:16.71) and Long Island’s Andrew Koek won the 100 breast (1:23.02).
