NEW COMMIT: Flower Mound, Texas native and talented breaststroker Jenna Watson will stay in-state for her college career, announcing her verbal commitment to Southern Methodist University beginning in the fall of 2020.

Watson does her club swimming with Lakeside Aquatic Club and owns three Summer Juniors standards. She most recently raced a trio of events at Junior Nationals this past summer after placing eighth in the 400m IM at Austin Sectionals. Last winter, she recorded 100% best times at Juniors West where her highest finish was a sixth-place showing in the 200 breast before earning silver in that event at College Station Sectionals.

Also competing for Flower Mound High School, Watson is a five-time Texas 6A State Championship finalist. She placed third in the 100 breast and seventh in the 200 IM as a junior after finishing fifth and eighth, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season. She has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for her efforts.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at Southern Methodist University! I’d like to thank my family, coaches, teachers and friends for their support in making this decision! I can’t wait to be a Mustang! #PonyUp”

Her best times include:

  • 100 breast – 1:03.13
  • 200 breast – 2:14.71
  • 200 IM – 2:02.46
  • 200 back – 2:02.66

Watson would’ve scored in the A-final of the 200 breast as well as the B-final of the 100 breast and 200 IM at the 2019 American Athletic Conference Championships where Southern Methodist finished third overall in the team standings. She will find a good training partner in Maxine Parkinson who will also be in the Mustangs’ class of 2024, as well as Gabriella GroblerKiley Vandevier and Felicity Passon.
