NEW COMMIT: Southern Methodist University has added another valuable addition for the fall of 2021 from in-state standout Morgan Schield of San Antonio, Texas.

She will suit up for the Mustangs as a member of the class of 2025 along with Kate JanzenOlivia LindAshley Lugbill and Tiffanie Ruan.

She told Swimming World:

“I’m beyond grateful to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and swimming career at SMU! I owe it all to God and couldn’t be more blessed with the family, coaches, and friends who have helped me in being able to continue doing what I love most. I’m beyond excited for what lies ahead with such an incredible team and coaches. PONY UP️”

A talented backstroker and butterflyer, Schield does her club swimming with Aquaswift Aquatics and most recently raced six events at College Station Sectionals in March. In summer 2019, she won the 200m back and was the runner-up in the 100m back at the STAGS Championships before going on to race at Des Moines Futures and NCSAs.

Her best times include:

  • 100 back – 56:66
  • 200 back – 2:01.97
  • 100 fly – 57.10

Also competing for San Antonio Christian High School, Schield won the 100 fly and the 100 back during both her sophomore and junior seasons at the TAPPS DII State Championships. She also earned gold in those events at the TAPPS Central Regional Championships in 2019 and 2020.

Under head coach Steve Collins, the Mustangs were the team runners-up at the 2020 American Athletic Conference Championships.
