Southern California Swimming Announces $650,000 COVID-19 Club Support Funding

At the April 15th Board of Directors meeting of Southern California Swimming (SCS), the Board approved an SCS COVID-19 Club Support Funding program that will make available $650,000 in two phases.

The Southern California Swimming the Board issues the following statement today:

Both Phase I and Phase II would have two parts.  In Phase I, SCS Clubs would be able to apply for funds from different categories and a pool of $300,000.  In Phase II, SCS Clubs would be able to apply for funds from different categories and a pool of $350,000.

Southern California Swimming will allocate up to $650,000 

for SCS COVID-19 Club Support Funding in two phases.

Measureable Objectives:

  • Addressing Meet Revenue for meets that have been cancelled due to COVID-19 mandates.
  • Helping Clubs at Risk.
  • Provide financial support to teams in need that choose to participate in testing new competition models made necessary Post COVID-19.

Phase I – YTD Until 90-days After Return To Operations (RTO) 

Based on need and application SCS will allocate up to $300,000 to help Clubs.

I SCS will consider support for Swim Meets that were cancelled in response to COVID-19 mandates that were on the SCS Schedule of competitions in the months after March 16th and including, April, May and June, 2020 – Up to $80,000.

II Support teams that are in dire need – Up to $220,000 based on an Athlete-share and a cap based on team size.

Note:  All applications are due by April 24th, 2020.

Phase II – Beginning 90-days after RTO

Based on need and application SCS will allocate up to $350,000 to help Clubs.

I $200,000 to support teams after they have Returned To Operations.

II $150,000 for meet support to run future meets by advancing funds to teams in need in order to roll out meets that may be necessary post COVID-19.

Note:  The application process will be opened up after the June 17, 2020 SCS BOD Meeting.

In addition to the Club Support Funding Program the Board of Directors also initiated several other teams, task forces and programs to help its Stakeholders together during and through to the “other-side” of the COVID-19 Crisis.

  • SCS Covid-19 Emergency Crisis Team of volunteers.
  • 30-60-90-RTP Planning Task Force.
  • Club Development Program.
  • SCS CARES Act Application Team.
  • SCS leadership Team.

I SCS will consider support for Swim Meets that were cancelled in response to COVID-19 mandates that were on the SCS Schedule of competitions in the months of March, April, May and June, 2020 – Up to $80,000.

  • Clubs must apply for the financial support to receive it.
  • The Meets that will be considered are the 2020 Calendar of Meets in the months of March, April, May and June.
    • Use the 2019 Reconciliation Amounts for the same meet (Or closest similarity).
    • SCS would grant 10% of the 2019 reconciliation “Net Amount to the Club” (Or closest similarity).

Note: This involves approximately 80 meets.

II Support teams that are in dire need – Up to $220,000.

Clubs must apply for the financial support to receive it and provide:

    • Representation & Documentation.
    • Representation of either 2018 / 2019 Taxes.
    • Bank statement showing reserves lower than 2.5 times their monthly operating expenses.
    • Present an Income / Expense Statement.
    • Present a 940.
    • SBA loan receipt of application with a Confirmation Number.
    • A Club Operational Balance Sheet.
    • Proof on insurances for the Club (Workers Comp)(D/O if its board run).
    • The amount granted shall be calculated by determining an “Athlete Share”:
      • Determine the Number of Qualifying Teams.
      • Determine a sum of the Number of Registered Athletes on all of the Qualifying Teams as of (4/7/2020).
        • Determine an “Athlete Share” of the $220,000.
      • Multiply the “Athlete Share” times the previous number determined per team.
    • All applications are due by April 24th, 2020.
    • Applications are submitted to the SCS Office and the Executive Director.
    • There will be a Review Committee made up of the following members: General Chair, the six Geographic Committee Chairs and the Finance Committee Chair.
    • This Review Committee will evaluate the applications and determine the process of completing the SCS COVID-19 Club Support Funding.

Phase II – Beginning 90-days after RTO

SCS will allocate $350K to help teams who are in need.

I $200K to support teams after they have Returned To Operations.

II $150K for meet support to help a team in need to run future meets.

  • LSC will grant meet opportunities and advance funds to teams in need in order to roll out meets that may be necessary post COVID-19.
