South Metro Storm’s Olivia Caldwell Announces Verbal Commitment to South Dakota

NEW COMMIT: The University of South Dakota has received a new verbal commitment for the fall of 2021 from Olivia Caldwell of Burnsville, Minn.

She will arrive on campus as a member of the Coyotes’ Class of 2025 along with Jessica Coakley and Sophia Vitela.

She told Swimming World:

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to further my education and swim at the University of South Dakota next fall! I cannot wait for this next chapter, and want to thank my family, friends, teammates, and coaches that have helped me reach this point. Go Yotes!”

A talented sprinter and breaststroker, Caldwell does her club swimming with South Metro Storm and finaled in two events at Minnesota Seniors in March In Summer 2019, she raced two events at Rochester Sectionals before going on to earn two best times at Minnesota LCM Seniors.

Her best times include:

  • 50 free – 24.46
  • 100 free – 54.98
  • 100 breast – 1:06.83
  • 200 breast – 2:28.48
  • 200 IM – 2:12.59

Also competing for Burnsville High School where she is the team captain, Caldwell and won the 50 free and was the runner-up in the 100 breast as a senior at the Minnesota Section 3AA Championships. She is also a four-time All-Conference swimmer, an All-State Honorable Mention, and a two-time Team MVP.

Caldwell will add valuable depth both individually and on relays next fall. Under head coach Jason Mahowald, South Dakota finished second overall in the team standings at the 2020 Summit League Championships.
