NEW COMMIT: Charleston, S.C. native Addie Laurencelle will make the move to California next fall after his recent verbal commitment to the Golden Bears.

A two-time Junior National qualifier, Laurencelle swims year-round with South Carolina Swim Club. He competed in his signature events – the 50 and 100 free – at Junior Nationals this past summer and recorded a lifetime best in the latter. He won the splash-and-dash at Greensboro Speedo Sectionals in addition to placing ninth in the 100 free.

Laurencelle also competes for Bishop England High School and led his team to a SCHSL 3A State Championship title after winning both the 50 and 100 free during his junior season. He placed fifth and fourth, respectively, in those same events during his sophomore campaign.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“In the world of college swimming, California, Berkeley is the Duke of college basketball. I will swim for the best program in the country, and be coached by one of the best coaches in the world. Academically, it’s right up there with Stanford. If you do well there, you will go far.”

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 21.06
  • 100 free – 45.99
  • 200 free – 1:42.67

Laurencelle will join a talented sprint group when he arrives in Berkeley as a member of the class of 2023 that includes Pawel SendykRyan Hoffer and Michael Jensen. Under head coach Dave Durden, the Golden Bears won the 2018 Pac-12 Championships team title.
