NEW COMMIT: The University of Georgia has scored a new verbal commitment for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Henré Louw of Pretoria, South Africa. He’ll join Zach Kohm and Ryan Wylie in Athens as a member of the class of 2025.

Louw is currently a junior at Afrikaans Hoër Seunskool and trains year-round with TUKS Swimming Club, the same club that Cameron van den Burgh spent time training with. Louw has represented South Africa at the 2018 Open Water Championships in Israel, as well as the 2019 FINA World Championships in Budapest.

He earned bronze in the 5k and 10k at South African Open Water Nationals this past year and won the 1500m free at the South African Elite Youth Championships. He secured silver in the mile at South African LCM Seniors and won the 800m free at South African SCM Seniors while earning the runner-up spot in the 1500m free.

Best open water times:

  • 3km – 32:10.46
  • 5km – 57:08.24
  • 10km – 01:54:52.79

Best SCM times:

  • 200m Free – 1:52.88
  • 400m Free – 3:55.99
  • 800m Free – 8:07.57
  • 1500m Free – 15:38.79

Best LCM times:

  • 200m Free – 1:52.08
  • 400m Free – 4:03.30
  • 800m Free – 8:26.58
  • 1500m Free – 15:49.32

In SCY, those times convert to:

  • 200 free – 1:38.07
  • 500 free – 4:31.27
  • 1000 free – 9:24.83
  • 1650 free – 15:25.48

Louw will add valuable depth when he arrives in Athens as a member of the Bulldogs’ class of 2025. Even with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go, his best time in the mile (converted to yards) would’ve placed in the top-22 at the 2019 SEC Championships where Georgia finished fifth overall in the team standings.
