NEW COMMIT: Georgetown University has been handed a new verbal commitment for the 2020-21 season and beyond from IMer and butterflyer Hailey Harkins of Chatham, N.J.

Harkins does her club swimming with Somerset Valley YMCA and most recently placed 17th in the 400m IM at YMCA LCM Nationals this past summer after recording a pair of best times at Rutgers Sectionals. Last winter, she earned bronze in the 200 fly at New Jersey 13&O States before going on to race four events at YMCA SCY Nationals.

Also competing for Chatham High School, Harkins has competed at the New Jersey Meet of Champions each of the last three seasons. Her highest finish at the championship meet has been a 15th-place showing in the 200 IM during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to Georgetown University. The team, coaches and unparalleled academics made Georgetown an easy choice for me. A huge thank you to my coaches, friends and family who supported me and believed in me. I cannot imagine spending my next four years anywhere else but Georgetown University! Hoya Saxa!”

Her best times include:

  • 200 IM – 2:06.49
  • 400 IM – 4:28.84
  • 100 fly – 58.23
  • 200 fly – 2:06.05

Harkins will make an immediate impact when she arrives in Washington, D.C. as a member of the Hoyas’ class of 2024. She would’ve scored in the A-final of the 400 IM as well as the B-final of the 100 fly, 200 IM, and 200 fly at the 2019 Big East Championships where Georgetown finished third overall in the team standings.
