NEW COMMIT: Hilton Head Island, S.C. native Chloe Corbitt has announced her verbal intention to swim for Rice University as a member of the class of 2023.

Corbitt swims year-round for Hilton Head Aquatics under head coach Mike Lane and owns the Junior Nationals cut in the 100 fly and has met the U.S. Open standard in the 200 fly. She raced both fly events at Juniors this summer after winning the shorter of the two distances at the SC LCM Championships in July. She competed in a trio of events at Juniors East last winter, earned a pair of top-8 finishes at SC SCY Championships and notched a best time at NCSAs. She also placed fifth in the 18&U heat in the 100 fly at the 2017 U.S. Open and was a 2016 Zone Select Camp member.

Also competing for Heritage Academy, Corbitt is a six-time South Carolina Independent School State champion over three years; she has won the 100 fly and 200 free combo as a freshman, sophomore and junior. Corbitt has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors twice in her career.

She told Swimming World:

“The combination of a welcoming and successful team and coaching staff, outstanding academic opportunities, and collaborative atmosphere makes Rice University the perfect fit for me. I am looking forward to elevating my athletic and academic pursuits as a Rice Owl!”

Her best times include:

  • 50 fly – 25.04
  • 100 fly – 54.77
  • 200 fly – 1:59.05
  • 200 free – 1:51.09

Corbitt will make an immediate impact when she suits up for the Owls at the start of the 2019-20 season. Both her best fly times would’ve ranked second on Rice’s lineup last season and would’ve scored in the A-final of the 2018 Conference USA Championships.
