Simpson University Adds Breaststroker Tom Higdon for Inaugural 2019-20 Season

NEW COMMIT: Davis, Calif. breaststroker Tom Higdon has declared his intention to swim for Simpson University as a member of the class of 2023. The 2019-20 academic year will be the Redhawks’ inaugural season under head coach Steven Lazaraton.

Higdon swims year-round with DART Swimming for Brian Nabeta and owns the U.S. Open cut in the 100m breast and the Winter Juniors standard in the 200 breast. He most recently competed at College Station Speedo Sectionals where he finished fifth in the 100m breast after placing second in the event at Santa Clara Futures last summer. 

His best times include:

  • 100 breast – 55.88
  • 200 breast – 2:04.82
  • 50 free – 21.59
  • 100 free – 47.86

Back in November, Simpson University announced the addition of five new Varsity athletic teams beginning in the fall of 2019. A former All-America swimmer at Allegheny College, Lazaraton was the senior assistant coach for The Bolles School for 16 years and is currently the head coach of the Shasta YMCA Sharks.

Tom is extremely competitive and lives to race, and will give his all to be the best. Simpson will have another great student-athlete to lead the inaugural team and be a role model for future classes. Win/Win!
