Short Court World Championships, Day Three Finals: Crocker Flirts With World Record in 50 Fly

INDIANAPOLIS, IN, October 9. IAN Crocker, the world record holder for the 100 meters butterfly short course and long course, came within .02 seconds of breaking the world record for 50 meters short course in winning the second of 2 semifinal heats.

Crocker’s time of :22.76 equaled his own American record set on the opening leg of his 100 world record performance. He missed Geoff Huegill's mark of :22.74 by a fingernail and clearly has the record in his sights in tomorrow’s final.

Brazil’s Kaio Almeida won the first semifinal in :23.22, for second qualifying position. The USA’s Ben Michaelson was fourth at :23.45. It took :23.57 for a spot in tomorrow night’s championship heat.
