Short Course World Champs, Day 2 Finals: Crocker Cruises

INDIANAPOLIS, October 8. IAN Crocker holds the world record for 100 meters butterfly over both the long course and short course. So the likelihood of an upset seemed remote.

And remote it was.

Crocker took command at the start, turned first at the 25 and just kept moving away from the field. Splitting 23.18 at the 50, over six-tenths ahead of Slovenia’s Peter Mankoc, his closest pursuer, Crocker just kept on keeping on.

At the wall, the Texas grad touched in a Championship record 50.18, with Britain’s James Hickman, swimming in his final meet, second in 51.13 and Mankoc third in 51.66. The USA’s Ben Michaelson, the 2003 Pan Am champ, was eighth in 52.46.
