NEW COMMIT: Roanoke, Va. native Shelby Stanley has recently announced her verbal commitment to Davidson beginning in the fall of 2019. Her older sister, Olivia Stanley, is a current junior for the Wildcats.

Stanley does her club swimming with Virginia Gators Swim Club and is a three-time U.S. Open qualifier. She capped off her successful long course season by winning the 400m IM and posting four additional top-10 finishes at the VA LCM Senior Championships. She raced five events at Juniors East last winter and had eight second swims at ISCA Junior Nationals in March.

Also swimming for Patrick Henry High School, Stanley is a six-time Virginia 5A State Championship finalist. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American placed third in the 200 IM and fourth in the 100 back as a junior after placing second and fifth, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

“I am beyond ecstatic to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Davidson College. Thank you to my family and coaches that have gotten me to this point #catsarewild”

Her best times include:

  • 200 IM – 2:01.57
  • 400 IM – 4:16.06
  • 100 fly – 55.91
  • 200 fly – 2:02.87
  • 100 back – 56.85
  • 200 breast – 2:19.79

Stanley’s versatility will make an immediate impact when she suits up for the Wildcats as a member of the class of 2023. Her best 200 IM and 400 IM times are already faster than Davidson’s program records and she would’ve scored in the A-final of multiple events at last season’s A-10 Championships.
